Apparently NOT An April Fools Joke.

During a House Armed Services Committee hearing on the defense budget Thursday, Rep. Hank Johnson (D-GA), was expressing his concerns about a plan to move approximately 8000 U.S. Servicemen and dependents to Guam.  While questioning Adm. Robert Willard, who commands the Navy's Pacific Fleet, Johnson said, "My fear is that the whole island will become so overly populated that it will tip over and capsize."

Republicans should feel free to consider this a gift.  Do with it what you will.

I used to work for a guy that thought every spring the ice on the lakes sank to the bottom. He, however, wasn't a congressman.

Unstersp: How the congressman spelled "capsize" in his notes.

The ice doesn't sink to the bottom? Where's it go then, Mr. SmartyPants?

Shawn Powers said...

Oh, it totally does. That's why ice fishermen drill those holes, so the fish can get topside.

Intioutt: What a congressman calls someone when he means "idiot."

You can fish for ice? What kind of bait do you use?

I think you guys are having me on!

I'm not sure, but you chum with Coca-Cola.

Coall: It burns like coal, but with more "L" :)

Chum with Coke-a-Cola? Well, that's been my problem, I've been using Pepsi. No wonder I have to buy my ice at the store.

There is at least one recorded case of ice sinking, when being cut from a frozen lake for storage in an ice house. Louise Dickenson Rich in 'We Took to the Woods'.

Of course this was before FDR's 3rd term when things were better.
