Respondez Moi S'il Vous Plait.

I'm getting emails from various film networking website administrators who have happened across my blog. This morning's invitation to join comes from Unusuals. I'm not entirely sure I'll join, (I do mostly Features and not commercials), but hey, it couldn't hurt, could it? This video they have posted about Location Scouting feels all too familiar (with or without the accent).

Good Morning, Mr Nathan, I was wondering if you would like to join my Dominos Pizza Appreciation web ring.

Nathan;

I got one of these too -- the same offer you recieved, no doubt, with a "free three month subscription."

Maybe the intent is good -- to connect skilled film workers with others who might have work to offer -- but what they really seem to want is for Industry bloggers to spread the word so that they can make money.

I don't know... I think I'll pass.

I actually went ahead and signed up. They didn't ask for any credit card info at this point, so they can't just automatically sign me up. (They do let you stay for free, but only paid members get certain features. Not sure which.) I'll see if I like it.

Most of their members seem to be in Europe...with most in Germany. Since I've gotten a fair amount of short gigs from Europeans coming to shoot NY, maybe it'll be worth something.

Also, I had trouble with one feature and emailed them. They responded within an hour and then we had a whole back and forth. The short version is that the site isn't really set up to do one thing the way I'd like to and they're trying to figure out a way to accommodate what I'd like to do. Responsiveness is always a good thing.

Lastly, I've found that even semi-useless sites can pay off. I got 6 months of work a few years ago from a post on Mandy.com.
