Art in Ft. Greene

When I first moved to Ft. Greene in the mid-late 90's, DeKalb Avenue was just starting to take off as a street full of good restaurants and Myrtle Avenue was...not. During the last 10 years or so, the Myrtle Avenue Partnership has done a wonderful job of bringing that street up in the world. I'm sure there have been other factors involved but they seem to always maintain a visible presence in what's going on, so I'll throw them credit.

Now, they're at it again. In association with South of the Navy Yard Artists (SONYA), they've had a bunch of artists displayed in various storefront windows along Myrtle. I like it and figured I'd show some of it to you. (Please go to their sites for information about the particular artists. I didn't have time to do the research, but I wanted to show you something I like.)
































Also, there's this...the Great Wall of Brooklyn. For years, this wall on Myrtle Ave. (@ Vanderbilt) has been covered with some really uninspired graffiti. The owner of the restaurant in the building (Charlotta Janssen - that's her art being displayed now) has teamed up with some others to make this a giant display place for stuff worth looking at, (once again, look at their website for details; I'm just posting pictures of stuff I like). I also really like her restaurants: Chez Lola and Chez Oskar, both really terrific and worth a visit.


Last, but not least, we have my own art. I call it Teufel playing hide-and-seek. Note the careful approach of LuLu who is not sure if she's found him or not. Note the artistic framing to include my ever so photogenic toes. I don't want to toot my own horn, but Norman Rockwell would weep. Yes he would.
