Adventures in Breadmaking.

Since we have the new dual-fuel Humongo-range, GF has decided it's time to bake some bread. With that in mind, she found a number of recipes online.

Take 1. Mix the ingredients, knead the dough a little. Set it aside to rise. Uh...no rising. Turns out that yeast had expired.

Take 2. Mix the ingredients and try to knead the dough. The dough is all crumbly and hard...not at all the consistency the recipe describes. Ah well, maybe it changes as it rises. It doesn't rise.

Take 3. While letting the yeast soak in warm water, GF mixes the dry ingredients. A noise catches her attention. She turns and finds Teufel sitting in the bowl of yeast. He doesn't rise either.

More as news warrants.

Um...

I was trying to come up with something helpful, as I do a fair amount of baking with yeast, but decided I can add nothing.

Hope things worked out better.

I find string or rattling a bag of dry food works if you want your cat to rise.

As for bread--I haven't baked any since college, and I never had great results. But I hope you can get things to work: fresh-baked homemade bread = awesomenomnomnomdrooooool.

That cat ain't right. Maybe if you started giving him daily baths, he'll stop liking water so much?

Teufel got out of the bowl before I could get the camera.

The bread came out properly bready. Looks like bread. Smells like bread. Tastes like bread.

Mmmmmmm. Bread.

I'm very glad my dog-children are unable to leap onto the table and countertops, or our cooking would be an adventure every time.

Anon GF, I'm very glad you started over. Furry bread would not be good.
