Today's Plan.

I have an appointment to scout Columbia University this morning (for college scenes, H.S. scenes and Swim Center scenes), and Old Westbury Gardens this afternoon (for the Diplomatic Reception scenes). I'm not at all sure that Old Westbury Gardens is right for this movie, but the Producer shot there once and mentioned it, so I have to scout it.

Two asides: First, Old Westbury Gardens is certainly worth considering, so I don't resent having to pursue it at all. I can't tell you how many times some driver or P.A. mentions a place to a Producer and then the Producer passes on "the tip" to me and therefore obligates me to pursue it...even if I know it's totally wrong for the movie. In those instances, it's a complete waste of time and there's absolutely nothing to be gained by trying to explain that it's not the right location for us...they need to see pictures and be able to say, "That sucks."

Second: My current Producer has been in the bizness a long time. This isn't at all a slam against him because, so far, he's shown himself to be exactly the kind of guy I love to work for...a pro who knows what he's doing and expects his staff to be the same way...and treats them accordingly. He's the kind of guy you want to impress. Having said that, he keeps mentioning locations that he shot at on a movie 38 years ago! I can't remember the last time my jaw dropped so often.

Back to the plan. The last two weeks have been only semi-productive. There were a ton of people who started celebrating the 4th in the middle of June and haven't checked their voice mail for ages. I'm assuming I'll start to be able to reach people and make some appointments I haven't been able to make so far. I'm informed that our Director will be coming to NY at the end of this week and he'll want to see a "bunch" of locations. So far, I have good locations to show him, but they're only a smattering...not a "bunch". Lots to do this week.

And with that in mind, I'm going to get started now and I'll talk to you guys later.

What's on your plate today?

Well first, today's post on my blog, so your "patience" has been rewarded. Then off to clients to examine and hopefully fix various problems. This will make them happy and encourage them to give me money.

Deadline for the July issue is Wednesday, so a lot of proofing and PDFing.

Slept in this morning, and taking tomorrow off for my birthday. Spending a minimun amount of time working so I'm not behind, but ready to kick back and relax all by myself. Yay!!!

Making a big images website. It's lots and lots of copy-paste of the same code, over and over, except around different filenames. The most mentally challenging part is picking out which images to use, based on whether there's cloud cover over the area of interest.

This reminds of people often asking me if something in NYC is still around--from what they remember in 1946, 1963, 1975 or whenever they were last there. You're job sounds pretty cool.

And see how well your contest is working...I came back.

That should be "your" and not "you're" of course. I never know whether to delete the comment and rewrite it, leave another comment correcting myself, or just let it be.

Yay for de-lurking!

And correct yourself anyway you like.
