I was pleasantly surprised. In fact, I'd nearly forgotten about the contest until Nathan sent me an e-mail--which I received on my phone, because the internets were all down at my home last night.
I read the first book in the series back when I was in junior high or high school; I look forward to reading it again.
My sort-of-mentor in undergrad was a professor of Asian history who was obsessed by ducks. It's all-too-fitting that an entry inspired by the Cultural Revolution, as applied to ducks, won a book set in feudal China--I need to see if the e-mail I have for her still works.
Oh... and has Jim won yet?
Bravo, Eric! Very well done. It took the accusatory allusions that many were referencing and showed, not told. Very well done.
