NaNoWriMo Ho Ho Ho.

Some of my no-account friends in the UCF have shamed me into trying NaNoWriMo. For the uninitiated among you, November is National Novel Writing Month. The object of NaNoWriMo (gawd, I hate typing that), is to try to write a 50,000 word novel in 30 days. You have to start from scratch. And write, write, write.

The object of this excercise is...I'm not 100% sure. I guess it's about forcing yourself to do the work every day. They tell you to just go for volume. Don't edit. Don't re-write. Don't try to get it perfect. (or even good.) That's what December is for.

So anyway, today I wrote Chapter 1 of "The Untitled, Unplotted Space Opera". I clocked in as 2261 words today, which I'm mightily pleased about. (You need to average 1667 words per day to hit the goal line.)

Anyway, there's a widget on the upper righthand side of my blog now, and if it ever starts working, you'll be able to keep up with my progress there. It's blank right now. D'oh!

Great first day word count Nathan! I have not started yet...still unsure if I will be joining the madness this year. Does writing term papers count?

A lot of the term papers I used to write were mostly fiction.

Good on ya, NG. I, too, have made it successfully though the first day of my event: Not Going to Write a Novel Month (NoGoWriNoMo)!

No word counts, no progress reports. You just have to take it on faith that I have no intention of writing a novel in the next 30 days. And, brother, I'm in it to win it.

Zero new fiction in my MacBook today. Ahhhh!

Go, man, go!

I'm not participating this year, but had great success in '07, my third attempt.

The community is great. The forums are hopping 24/7. Any hour of the day there's someone around to share the suffering, er I mean joy!
