A couple of days ago, Scalzi posted this in regard to bimonthly open registration at Whateveresque. I took the opportunity to comment that I thought the lack of his guiding hand as a moderator was not a good thing. Then, after a few people made similar comments, he posted this over on the 'e'. Now, I'll admit that I accidentally hijacked the comment thread, but, in truth, what needed to be said had already been said and it's not like someone can't put it back on the rails if they so choose.
So anyway, I dropped in over there a little while ago to see if there's anything new and what did I find? This! Now I make no claims to special abilities to predict the future, but I don't see this going anywhere good. In fact, I foresee spontaneous Foomage!
I have no intention of commenting on the thread and I'm not trying to get any of you to do so either (although if you want to, knock your brains out). But I am going to watch the thread just to see how long it takes to get ugly...'cause you just know it will!

Last time I got involved in a handgun debate at Whateveresque, a few people started a flame war that got real nasty. I can't wait to see what happens today.

Yeah, Taustin was my first guess too. He only seems to wake up for flameworthy threads.

I don't do the Foe list thing. Once those people take over, I just drop out. This one, however, I'm gonna watch until my head hurts.
Really, it's totally worth it! I haven't read a post by taustin or Sarge E in months!
But if they're dominating a thread (and that's the only way they're willing to participate), how do you make any sense of the thread without their nonsense.
They don't make any sense anyway, so it really makes little difference!
Taustin and Sarge E don't dominate a thread; they mercilessly beat it and all participants into submission. I have issues about being right sometimes, but man, they put me to shame.
I think I see a foe list configuration in my future.
I have spent so little time on the 'e' in the last few months I barely notice them - but when they do pop up I generally just close that post and try another.
Hey, maybe they're the same person (Sarge & TAustin) just having fun with us all. ;)
I haven't spent a lot of time on the "e" since Scalzi started posting again. I just don't have the time to track all the threads and keep up, so I don't even try.
As for the idiots that think everybody carrying guns would help, I've taken the concealed-carry class here in Ohio. To qualify, besides a written test, you have to be able to put 5 rounds on an 8.5x11 sheet of paper at 15 yards (or so) three times. My wife, who has never fired a pistol before (she has fired rifles and shotguns) was the first to qualify in our class of 12 (the ten other guys were all "hunters" and "good gun people"). I was the second to qualify (there was a jam and a dispute on how many rounds had been discharged already). We had to wait another hour for the rest of them to qualify (we were going in rounds, fire your 5 rounds, then the next person went, my wife was first to shoot, I was fifth to shoot). Yeah, I don't want any of them around me trying to help me out. I'll take my chances with the shooter, thank you very much.
Plus, let me see, oh officer that man has a gun. I want the MF arrested, not have the officer thinking, "Well, he may have the right to carry one." And don't get me started on security that are stupid about their own firearms. I see red, and it makes me want to make a scene and show them exactly WHY they should carry smart. Ugh. Sorry for hijacking, Nathan.
No apology necessary. I just wish you had posted this over there. That would've finally got the flame war started.
I just don't have much time for a flame war anymore, Nathan. And showing up Cool Blue/Frank no longer as it's "yehaw" appeal. It's been just too easy lately.
Actually, the conversation went on with unseemly civility...until Taustin showed up a couple of hours ago.
Now he and Skar are all het up and likely to drive it off the rails right quick like. :D
