An Historical Revision

While the whole Hijack concept certainly has merit, I've had another idea. Let's all crash someone else's party. I just did a GoogleSearch "what's for dinner" and I was randomly clicking on different sites to find out what might be for dinner.

I ran across this post. Now reading that one post and looking at a few others, it struck me that this might be a person with a sensibility similar to us UCFers.

Now I'm not saying that the linked Jen of Jenworld should be the one, but here's the idea. (And we can do this as often as we like). First, any of us finds a blog that has no connection to any of us. It's something written well consistently (with interesting comments), and updated regularly. It's also someone with an established following (as evidenced by comments), but not with a massive following. Then we wait for a particularly fun or interesting post to show up and we all show up en-masse.

Your thoughts?

We can even announce our arrival. (The visit might be a one time thing, but in my imagination, we're finding a blog that we'd want to read regularly and that we'd want their readers checking us out.)

I'm thinking of it as a Mini-Farking...with a very select clientele. And I've tried spelling clientele 12 different ways and spellcheck doesn't like any of 'em.

Suck it spellcheck.

Sunds like fun....but I am off to work in an hour or so, so I can't join in the fun tonight. I will however check in on you guys in the morning, when I come home...I need my wind down time before heading off to bed....and a Hi-jacking sounds like a good way to unwind.

Kim,

Even if everybody likes the first blog I found, we wouldn't start tonight. Weekends suck for blogging.

I'd want to make sure the word is out to everyone...so that we really do all show up together.

Sunday is right out for me, as I'll be spending the day in the car driving back and forth from Maryland.

Monday I'm probably taking the day off, and plan to be home, but may not on the computer.

If I'm lucky, I'll be sleeping in, maybe gardening, and then napping.

Nathan, from Planet FuckStick, you rawk, man. Let's do this thing, but only after we are all synchronized.

12:16 am......now

Heh, I have a friend with a blog that would probably be of interest to most of the people here. However, I'm not sure the interest would necessarily flow in the other direction. It's not a matter of marching to a different drummer, it's more that he doesn't march at all... would he still be qualified?

Also, if we do this (to anyone)... Whatever we show up en masse about, we should be respectful and stay on their topic and etc.

OK, the massive following part knocks out Johnny V., who's picked up a whole lotta people I don't know since the J.C. Penney post.

MWT,

Absolutely re: the respectful of their blog thing. There's nothing malicious in this idea. Think of it as the "random acts of kindness" prank. It's about finding new places we want to be at the same time as having some random person go, "wow, how did I attract so many cool people overnight". (This is me assuming we're all so freakin' cool...which I'm willing to do in spite of my own evidence to the contrary). :) And I don't think we should disqualify anyone just because they might not reciprocate...if we'd enjoy what they're doing...what the hell. This N.C.I. (Nathan's crazy idea), should have almost no rules attached.

John,

JV is exactly the kind of blog I have in mind...just pre-J.C.Penney (which I didn't see and need to search his archive for). I think we're looking for folks who range somewhere between no comments (haven't been discovered at all yet), and averaging 5-15 comments (have a few people who drop in regularly).

As someone who watches my stats obsessively, I'd totally freak out and happy dance all over the place if I suddenly had 10-20 people show up in one day and comment from out of thin air.

Sounds like fun. Count me in.

Do we follow the prime directive?

Random Michelle K said...

The prime directive? Be silly and make no sense?

Nathan said...

First, do no smarm?

No, that can't be right.

First, do the Watusi?

I'll join. Will you announce the destination here?

I'll put it up as a new post with the basic explanation again. I want to wait til I can send folks to a link I think where we'll want to comment.

If anyone else runs across something that meets the criteria, by all means let me know.

Okay, the person I had in mind at my last comment is here. I've been following his life for a few years now, and he's led an extremely interesting one, and has a lot of interesting things to say.

As for en masse ness, I'm kind of swamped with stuff to do until Wednesday or so, so it'd have to be after that.

Late to the party as usual, but I'm in. Sounds like fun.
