Sophie from Shinola Meets The Bard.

We bogged down for a week, but Charles has now posted the next installment. I'll admit that I want some explanations. And I don't care if they're Charles' explanations or just the rest of you making up more shit. Charles volunteers to have this installment left out of the final product. NOOOEEEES! I don't know what it means, but I guarantee it will move things in a direction that none of us imagined before...and that's quite an achievement.

I'm pretty sure that Justin and Tania are the only ones left on deck. Bring it home, guys!

My interpretation, for what it's worth:

They took a short cut through a black hole. That'll change you perspective!

I like it!
To me, it sounds like it could have been the thoughts of some of the "crazies" that i talked about in installment 26. Someone's neurotic/delusional episode as they slide in and out of reality.

Picture a stark room, one single person in the middle, rocking back and forth on the floor, head tossing from side to side...embattled in the conflict of Reality/insanity.

Just my thoughts....

kimby, you're on point with what i had in mind (there's a shadeless lamp somewhere close at hand), but there's nothing wrong with vince's take either. it's a complete digression and i spank my own wrists, but it couldn't be helped.

i'd say ignore it and move on with where we last left our heroes...

Very cool, very creative. Definitely adds mood & tone to the story!

(Deleted the first version of this because of a typo.)

In some ways, I've felt this project was a little like a literary exquisite corpse (and even used "exquisite corpse as a tag). In an exquisite corpse, each new author only sees the last paragraph or sentence of the previous writer's story before starting his own contribution and it's only when everyone's had their turn that the whole assembly is read start-to-end. (The other exquisite corpse, the artistic kind, the first player draws something on the top part of the page and then folds it so that the next player can't see what he's done, and this is repeated until the entire page is filled.)

A good exquisite corpse doesn't necessarily have a coherent story (odds are it won't, but it's fun when it does).

Anyway, the point is that the meaning of Charles' piece (which is excellent) will only make sense in the context of the whole. So, if Justin is next (since he apparently was skipped in the second series), he'll be the one who builds upon, incorporates, or ignores Charles' part 30 (or the closing chapter, whoever writes the best one, may address Charles' contrib). And then we'll be the ones to interpret that.

Thus, it's premature for an explanation. By way of a metaphor, imagine (if you will) a freshly-baked lasagna. If you try to serve it before it has properly set, you will end up with a runny mess that ends up collapsing and flowing into the space left when you rashly scooped out some lasagna because maybe you were hungry and impatient. That may be a bad example--probably none of you have ever done that and know just what I'm talking about, hmm...?

Anyway, I haven't had a chance to leave comments for everyone like I should have, but I've enjoyed reading these, and everyone's contrib has been pretty awesome. And I look forward to the next chapter/part/installment.

Charles, no one will be ignoring your entry (which I agree is excellent even if I'm not sure what it means). It is now a part of the whole. I like it that way.

Eric, you're killing me.

I try.
